Getting Around Nassau is a small island with several distinct areas. Theres downtown Nassau with the cruise ship dock and Paradise Island across a small walkable bridge. Theres also the Cable Beach area that features mostly resort hotels, the Crystal Palace casino and a few good restaurants. And of course, theres the wedding venue near Orange Hill Beach and the Gambier Village residential area. Here are various tranportation options around the island of New Providence. Public jitney buses rove the island all day until about 6pm and cost a mere $1 (exact change). From downtown, they leave from in front of the British Colonial Hilton, and at various points along Bay Street, including from the foot of the western Paradise Island Bridge. There's a stop in front of Orange Hill Inn, a short walk from A Stone's Throw Away. Taxis will take you pretty much anywhere the rates are on a par with New York prices. At the airport, youll find them everywhere (or they'll find you!). In downtown, find cabs waiting off Woodes Rogers Walk on Prince George Wharf. If you want to rent a car, you can do it on the spot at the airport, but we suggest making arrangements ahead of time for best pricing. Getting to Paradise Island - To get from downtown Nassau to Paradise Island, you can walk across the short bridge, or take a water taxi from Woodes Rogers Walk, near the British Colonial Hilton, across the short harbor channel. Atlantis also offers free shuttle buses that loop between the resort and downtown Nassau. Water taxis offer a convenient and scenic ride between Prince George Wharf downtown and Paradise Island., from 8am to 6pm at 20-minute intervals. Cost is $2 per person each way. There are also $3 ferries between the Government Ferry Dock on Paradise Island and Cable Beach, and points west. Horse-drawn surrey tours are a great way to see downtown Nassau, and are based at Woodes Rogers Walk behind the Straw Market on Bay Street in downtown.
